HCAC: Exhibition, Open House and Holiday Sale

ART MD 2008 is the eighteenth multi-media statewide juried exhibit sponsored by the Howard County Arts Council. The exhibit began in 1984 as Maryland ’s Best, which was an annual show through 1989 open to all Maryland artists. In 1990, when the show became a biennial, its name was changed to ART MD. Since the Baltimore Museum of Art ended its Maryland biennial exhibits in the early 1990s, ART MD has been a premier juried showcase for artists in the region. In 2000, ART MD expanded to include Delaware and Southeastern Pennsylvania in addition to Maryland , Virginia , and Washington D.C.

Favorite Shops: Pink Kiss Pottery Studio

I am just in love with every piece that comes out of Pink Kiss Pottery Studio. The painterly layers of color, the textures, the mysterious text, the way that mug fits so perfectly in my hands as I leisurely sip my morning coffee. The latter part may be a fib, but my start up collection of mugs by Pink Kiss Pottery Studio does make me pause each morning as I take a moment and pour my cup of joe. And as for that mysterious text – I’ll fill you in on a little secret. The excerpts are chosen from those racy romance novels you secretly adore. Ponder that!

Wrangle Up Those Crafty Kids

And take them to Amazing Glaze in Mt. Washington to create their own ceramic treasure! OK, so the ceramic part is all taken care of, but you can choose from hundreds of vessels, tchotchkies, and functional or decorative wares just waiting for your child's artistic touch.

I have fond memories of drawing on a melamine plate when I was younger. I think. I might have fabricated this memory... who knows. Anyway, in my mind, I thought it was so awesome that my drawing would be made permanent. I felt so special, and my work so important. When my daughter was born, I couldn't wait until she was old enough to take her to this ceramic workshop we passed every time we went to the grocery store. I forgot all about it, because, you know, things get a little crazy when you add a baby to the mix.

Enter the terrible twos. These are the days when we just have to escape. Get out of the house! Do something unexpected, for no reason at all. This is when I remembered. It was perfect. Messy, but perfect. And my daughter painted a Christmas ornament that I hope will last forever. Her grandparents are going to be so psyched and proud when we give it to them!
