ACC....THE place to be in February

Where is that you might ask?

It is none other than the largest juried indoor craft show in the nation! And it is right here in Baltimore!

The American Crafts Council Show features more than 700 of the country's top contemporary artists.

With so many artists gathered under one roof to present their latest masterpieces - there is sure to be something for everyone!
Jewelry, clothing, furniture, home décor and more! The array of talent is staggering. The show is definitely THE place to be for anyone with an interest in the highest quality artisan made items.

Held at the Baltimore Convention Center, February 24-27, 2011, the show features artist demonstrations, alternative crafts, 'green' crafts, a new "under $100" section, and much more!

It's Here! ACC starts today!

This year, the ACC show runs for four days. So purchase your discounted tickets here and get going! Here's what I'll be looking for:
One of my favorite jewelers is Elisa Shere Jewelry. Organic, modern and classic all at the same time. You can find Elisa in the Altcraft section of the show.

For only the coolest kids I know. I can't get enough of Sweet Pepita's groovy tees. Shannon Delanoy will be on the Mainfloor: Booth #319.

The Countdown to ACC - 2 days to go!

As with many of you, it's become an annual tradition of mine to check out the American Craft Council Show here in Baltimore. This year will truly be a special treat, as a number of BEST artists will be exhibiting in the AltCraft section of the show. The youngest, hippest artists from around the country can be found here and I intend to check it out! Over the next few days, enjoy a sneak peak into the local talent that will be showcasing their exquisitely chic work.

I love the crisp black grout border around these pendants from The Broken Plate Pendant Company.

Sweet little talking bird cards from Bowerbox Press.

Every year more than 700 artists present their work at the American Craft Council Show in Baltimore, attracting a crowd of 25,000 enthusiasts to the largest juried, indoor craft show in the nation. The average booth is valued at $1,500 but as part of the Council’s commitment to indie crafters, the cost of participation is just $400, which includes a skirted table, electricity and lighting trusses in a shared space. Plus, there’s no application fee!

Applicants are eligible only if they have NOT shown in an American Craft Council show previously. Embellished commercially-bought objects (e.g., tee shirts, note cards, etc.) are not eligible. Show dates are February 27-March 1.

The deadline is Thursday, October 30.

Please submit:

• (3) low-resolution images of your work
• A brief description of your work (materials, dimensions, techniques)
• Your contact information (mailing and email addresses)

Send submissions and inquiries to Erika at altcraft@craftcouncil.org.

Finalists will be announced in November.

Tag... She's It!

I know the ACC was a whole couple of weeks ago, but I'm still a little in awe of the crazy knit fence I saw there! After seeing artist Lacey Jane Robert's fence, I looked up her work online... and all I have to say is... TAG... you're it!!!

Wouldn't it be great if more graffiti artists could express themselves in such a soft and fuzzy way! Now you have to check her out.. more info can be found on my blog!

think you've seen it all?

There's lots of amazing work on Etsy, for sure, but if you get a chance, head down to the American Craft Council's wonderful show this weekend at the Baltimore Convention Center. Check out hundreds of fine American craft artists, such as Jen Violette, Jenny Mendes, Jennifer Bauser, and Tomas Savrda (above, clockwise, from upper left) and demos from our own Allison Fomich.

I'm lucky enough to own work from 3 of the four talented artists shown above, and I'll tell you, each time I look at my collection, I smile. It's so worth it... take some time, and surround yourself with craft.

Tigerlillyshop’s Jewelry Demo

Monica Hampton, the Director of Education for the Council for the American Craft Council was looking to find local crafters in Baltimore who might be interested in partnering with the ACC to do some demonstrations during the retail portion of the show running February 22-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center. She told me that the ACC was trying to reach out to a broader audience and include the DIY market as well as people who make a living making a smaller volume of product than what one would equate with the status quo ACC base. Hampton mentioned that she was hoping to collaborate with Etsy a bit, and asked Adam from the Etsy Marketing team to help her contact me regarding my interest.

I am thrilled that she contacted me! This is a fantastic opportunity for me to get some wide exposure given that nearly 15,000 attendees come through the show floor!

In my demo, I will show the process and explain how I encapsulate organic objects in a copper shell to make one-of-a-kind pieces of nature jewelry. The many steps of the electroforming process will be exhibited, such as selecting a suitable object, plating in an acid bath, and finishing.

Last year I was lucky enough to be voted "Best Local Jewelry Designer 2007" by the Baltimore City Paper. Then, this inquiry from the ACC demo came through Etsy in December. In January, a writer for the Copper Development Association's online international magazine called me to feature my electroforming on their website (this article should be launching Monday). Wow, the web is an amazing networking tool! My head is still spinning.

Look for an article in the Examiner for info on the ACC show, my involvement, and images of my work!

Here is the ACC Demo Schedule for Saturday, February 23rd:

10:00 a.m. Show Opens
11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Allison Fomich, Tigerlilyshop – Jewelry electroforming
1:00-2:00 p.m. Erwin Timmers, Washington School of Glass - Recycled glass
