Twenty Things - Tigerlilly Shop

1. I am grateful to Cadbury who only sells their Mini Eggs once a year around Easter, I would be in big trouble if they were on the shelves year round.
2. Once, I caught a tadpole and raised it to a full grown leopard frog, and I was afraid of it once it was full grown ( Freaky eyes… )
3. I am a career Girl Scout. I even got my Gold Award despite my troop going underground for most of jr. hight and high school.
4. Probably, I spent 1/2 of my childhood catching crawfish and poison ivy in the ditches next to my house in Louisiana.
5. When everyone else in high school had a part time job making money, I volunteered my time away -and loved it.
6. When I gave birth to my daughter, Julie Bell helped make it an absolute perfect textbook water birth –au natural (*high fives all around to those who feel me).
7. I was appalled and laughed out loud at the real estate listing we eventually bought and made our home.
8. I am the oldest of 4 sisters, but admit I might not be the smartest one.
9. I think I laugh too loud, but don’t care.
10. I share my home with an exotic rainbow land crab named Fruity, a Siamese fighting fish named Poogdu, and my cat. Oh, and of course my daughter and her father.
11. I hated wearing dresses as a child.
12. I have been reupholstering furniture for 10 years, from outdoor cushions to museum quality antiques. Yes, those kitties keep me in business;)
13. I am always up for a challenge or one more thing that I may or may not be able to handle…
14. On that note, I started my first blog in July: www.TigerlillyPatch.blogspot.com
15. I love, love, love to garden. I can’t get enough.
16. I discovered that I like to eat beets this year.
17. My all time favorite flower is a fresh pink tulip.
18. I am in awe of my mom.
19. Anything I ever tried to make with color turned into a rainbow.
20. I would be lost if the Pixies never existed.

Indie-Pendent Business: aMuse Toys

Looking for a toy store that's as fun, bright, creative and unique as your kids? check out aMuse toys, the award winning, locally owned toy store with locations in Fells Point & Pikesville
.

Photo credit: Chiaki Kawajiri, Baltimore Sun/ June 25, 2008)

Owned and operated by Fell's Point residents, the Towles family, aMuse Toys strives to bring engaging, innovative and creative play through its amazing selection of toys and gifts. Claudia & Tom Towles really know their stuff too! Visit aMuse and you're guaranteed to see them on the floor demonstrating a new game, pressing buttons & moving magnets around a giant sand filled safari table top activity center, making informed suggestions and just plain having fun with their customers (the little and not-so-little ones alike). They are committed to selling quality, award-winning toys designed to engage the whole child while inspiring creative thinking. "We don't go with trends," says Claudia. "Everything that's bought is bought with purpose."

You'll find fun for any budget, with toys & games ranging from less than $2 to $500. But it's o.k. to splurge here!; Claudia & Tom look for toys with longevity and multiple uses. What's most popular? well, some crowd favorites include Haba, Zolo and Plan Toys, which are made from rubber wood, a renewable resource. And for those who really want to buy Local, aMuse is also the largest retailer of Baltimore's (and B.E.S.T's) own handmade art dolls, the Knitimals™, by greenstarstudio.

aMuse is a great stop for holiday shopping (especially if you think you might be too frazzled to decipher what your kids MIGHT want); the staff are the perfect ambassadors to the often daunting world of toys! aMuse Toys has two locations: in the heart of Fell's Point, at 1623 Thames St and in the Shops at Quarry Lake, at 2576 Quarry Lake Drive, Pikesville.

Crafty Bastards Needs Volunteers!

Crafty Bastards in DC is looking for folks to volunteer at their upcoming show! Aside from the reward of helping out the crafting community and, working with a great group of people, you'll also be eligible to receive a gift bag ($100 value), including a limited edition Crafty T-shirt.

AND... all crafters who volunteer for a 5 hour shift will be in a drawing to win a free, non-juried booth space at Crafty Bastards 2009! If you work more than 5 hours, you'll get a bonus entry into the drawing to double your chances of winning. We'll pick two winners from our pool of volunteers.

If you'd like to volunteer, the two shifts you can pick to work are: 5am-10am, 2pm-7pm. The morning shift helps with booth set up and getting vendors' wares from their cars to their booth spaces. The last shift works at the CP booths, and also helps with clean up. Any shift that you can work is greatly appreciated. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by Whole Foods.

If you can work a shift, email Heather McAndrews at craftybastardsvolunteers(at) gmail(dot)com with the shift you want. You must sign up before Friday, September 12th at 5pm in order to take advantage of the free booth drawing.

Also, the vendor gallery is up and running! Check it out here - there's lots of BEST and Charm City Craft Mafia members representing! More info on Craft Bastards coming soon!
