Tigerlillyshop Trunk Show, The Muse

BEST's own Tigerlillyshop will be at one of our favorite shops in Frederick, MD for the wintery Fire and Ice First Saturday celebration at The Muse., this Saturday fron 5-9 pm.

February means that love is in the air! Check out this great boutique full of handmade wares, perfect for thoughtful Valentine gifts. Allison Fomich of Tigerlillyshop will have a selection of her mixed metal botanical jewelry for sale, as well as some of her kimono button work.

Spectacular street level ice sculptures are on display throughout the shopping district for this special event. Make a night of it and enjoy a stroll through this historic shopping district, grab a hot chocolate and be part of one of the most fun events of the winter!

The Way We Work, National Archives Trunk Show

I am very excited to announce that BEST team members Tigerlillyshop and OpenEyesPress will be selling their work at the National Archives trunk show event this week!

This invitational handmade artisan sale will be held Dec. 2-5th, 10-5 pm at the National Archives Shop on the National Mall in D.C., 700 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest Washington, DC 20408-0002.

Inspired by New Deal arts projects, which put artists to work and promoted American art and culture during the Great Depression, “The Way We Work” trunk show will feature the work of contemporary artists for sale at affordable prices.

There is going to be a lunch hour film program in the National Archives' William G. McGowan Theater Friday, December 2 will highlight Works Progress Administration short subject films.

What is a Trunk Show?

According to Wikipedia, a trunk show is " a special sale in which vendors present merchandise directly to store personnel or select customers at a retail location or another unique venue. In many cases it allows store personnel to preview and/or purchase merchandise before it is made available to the public. It is particularly desirable to have the actual designer present at the event. Most small businesses do this to get more buys. Trunk Shows are particularly popular in the bridal industry. January through May is Trunk Show season. Brides can view a larger selection of a bridal designer's collection than is normally carried in a bridal salon. Trunk shows got their name from the way dresses used to be transported to these events--in trunks."

As a designer, this is one of my favorite ways of showing my collections.  I get to spend a lot of time with customers and usually end up coming home with new ideas and inspiration for new work.  How does it work? Here is an example...

Typically, a customer will pick out a time and date and invite a bunch of friends.  In the past, my hosts have held "trunk show happy hours" where the host offers wine and hors d'oeuvres.  Although I don't show up with an actual trunk, I do show up a half hour early to set up a few trays of jewelry.  It's that easy.  The host gets to pick out a free piece of jewelry and gets a discount on all of her purchases.  All of the guests have a great time... eating, drinking, and trying on jewelry!  There's no hard sell, there's no minimum purchase, just drinks, friends, jewelry, and good times! 

Teresa B's Fall Trunk Show

Teresa B's Gift and Home is a popular boutique located just north of Baltimore in the Hunt Valley area.
