Oh no! Will the market be forced to shut down in 2012? Sign the petition, send an e-mail!
In case you haven't heard, Montgomery County is proposing a fee increase for Fenton Street Market's use of Veterans Plaza on Saturdays. The cost would be 26 times, or 2,600% more, next year. If that happens, Fenton Street Market will be forced to close. Other uses for the space the county is considering include a putt-putt golf course.
Introducing Fenton Street Market, the grassroots cause. The outcry from the community is incredible. People LOVE seeing you at the Fenton Street Market and don't want you to go away! Read their comments on the online petition. Please sign it to show your support of the market, and please send the link (bit.ly/savefenton) to everyone you know who cares about public markets, community, arts, and locally-based business! Local officials have been flooded with letters from your customers, but what's missing is the voice of YOU, the independent craftspeople and entrepreneurs who exhibit in our marketplace. Please share your thoughts as independents using the market to build your business in Silver Spring with County Executive Ike Leggett and the Montgomery County Council.
