Featured Seller - Jacquelineknits

The first store I made a favorite when I joined etsy almost exactly one year ago today, was Jacquelineknits. I haven’t actually bought one, but I am wishing for that adorable little knitted jacket for my apple or better yet my precious August peach! Of course, I could never put one in Ian’s lunch, God forbid an eighth grade boy would find something so…well, girlie, in his lunch box. But who cares, I’ll pack my lunch even if I do eat at home. Her knits are so simple and honest, at once silly and functional and just so darn lovable! Somehow the fruit jacket seems like something from years ago, but our generation gets to claim it! She makes other knitted pieces, too, like a tea bag cozy, a knitted coffee sleeve and a candy case! Who doesn’t need one of those! Thanks, Jacqueline, for inspiring happiness!

Featured Etsy Seller: Moon Raven Arts

Creating an Etsy shop opened so many doors for me. It got me out of the house, brought me into a community that inspired me to take a risk, and most importantly, connected me with other hard working creative people who have become dear friends. So last year, when my friend Rosalyn told me that she took the leap and opened up her own Etsy shop, Moon Raven Arts, I was so so excited for her.

Rosalyn

Rosalyn carves delicate line drawings into the surface of tumbled stones. Ancient and intricate, strong and smooth, her pendants seem to be created intuitively, from her soul.

Featured Etsy Seller: Essimar

I can't seem to remember how I stumbled upon Essimar , but I am thrilled that I did. I love the play of color and seemingly simple repetition on each tiny little card. Somehow they take me back to my childhood days of Rainbow Brite, legwarmers and perhaps a little Cyndi Lauper

Favorite Etsy Artist: Sarah Ogren

One of my favorite Etsy artists lately is Sarah Ogren. I'm absolutely in love with her fantastical portaits that combine animal heads with turn-of-the-century people and love her use of bird houses and vintage frames. Her pieces are sweet and twisted at the same time, and I love it. And, her titles are hilarious and meaningful. Here are some of my favorites:

Featured Etsy Seller: Uloni

One of my all time favorite etsy shops is Uloni, a fiber artist who creates amazingly intricate wearable art jewelry pieces. These pieces are wild: funky, edgy, and very unique. She labors over each piece, creating detailed crochet ridges and valleys encrusted with pools of shiny beads. The result is a breathtaking composition of contrast; inset vs. raised areas, shiny vs. flat, texture vs. smooth, dark vs. light, shadow vs. sheen. All of these principles dictate the dynamic landscapes found within each piece.

Favorite Etsy Seller: Barr-etzz

I've got some cuteness to share!

Because I am obsessing about everything baby lately, I fell in love with Barr-etzz' s baby shoes as soon as I came across this shop on Etsy. Owned and operated by an architect in Peru, she creates all patterns and hands cut all the pieces; that is why there are no two alike. Each creation is unique, as she’s always exploring different materials and adding wool felt appliqués, hand embroidery, buttons or Velcro.

You can also ask her to add a rubber-coated polyester fabric sole for more grip. Perfect for babies that walk.

Favorite Seller: Bunny With A Toolbelt

I was lucky enough to meet Hilary of Bunny With a Toolbelt several years ago, and I've watched her work expand beyond the wonderful sculptures, collages, and installations she creates to these amazingly sweet and completely attainable little sculptures, which make me very, very happy.

Boom Box Elephant, sculpture

New Kid in Town, baby shower cake topper

Pretty Kitty Bride and Groom, wedding cake toppers

Owl Love You Forever, wedding cake toppers

In addition to all of the sweet one-of-a-kind sculptures available in her etsy shop, Hilary does all sorts of wonderful custom wedding toppers, which you can read about here. Take a look around her shop, I guarantee you it will make your day!

Favorite Etsy Seller: Geninne

Ah, Summer... time for travel! And, for some, time for postcards. My husband and I are postcard people--- letter people, word people, dictionary people.

As much as we might see each other in a day, we still write each other postcards and letters, because holding an actual something is just so cool.

He is an ocean person. I am a bird person. And I first found the beautiful limited edition prints of Geninne's while doing an etsy search of those keywords. I was looking for some art I could send him as a surprise, and came across these lovely little pieces. I love the play between the image and the text. The colors are so sweet & crisp. These make great wall pieces and wonderfully simple summer gifts.

Favorite Shops: pinpinn

I love that pinpin's shop announcement says, "Pincushions should be another extension of who YOU are as a crafter, sewer, designer, and eco-savvy artist!" It just makes sense, doesn't it? That the place we seamstresses spend the most time (in front of our machines) should be unique, too? And I really love that if my husband were a seamstress, I'd find the perfect pincushion for him right here, too!

Rubix Cube Pincushion - OOAK -

Peacock of Many Colors Pincushion

The pincushions you'll find in this cute shop are crafted from upcycled wool and EcoFelt and filled with EcoCraft fiberfill (a sustainable fiberfill made from corn). Perfect for us environmentally aware seamstresses! Give your pins a happy home!

Favorite Shops: whimsy & spice

Ah, autumn—there's so much to love: It is season for the scarves & boots; orange foliage & crisp air, but better yet, it's the pumpkin, spices & delicious food season. And that has inspired me to search for Fall yummy-ness on Etsy some time ago.

This particular shop with amazing photography caught my attention.

Whimsy & Spice is a Brooklyn-based pastry shop that combines aromatic spices and unique flavors to bring you an unexpected cookie and Biscotti.

The husband & wife team Mark – a Pastry Chef and Jenna - an award-winning art director, designer and artist combine their skills and more than 12 years of experience in culinary arts and graphic design to produce a distinctive line of handmade sweets. All of their cookies and sweets are hand rolled, hand cut and hand packaged in Brooklyn, NY, using only the finest ingredients with no added preservatives or artificial flavorings.

My mouth is salivating, just at the thought of these Marshmallow Sampler Packs: chocolate, cardamom, caramel or maple w/ eighteen 1.25" cubes of yummy light and fluffy marshmallow goodness. Light airy bites that melt in your mounth....

How tempting are these Brown Sugar Gingerspice shortbread cookies? The texture of a shortbread cookie with the zing of a gingersnap is enhanced with the soft bite of cinnamon and touch of cloves. Oh my!

Pumpkin Ginger Sandwich Cookies: A creamy white chocolate filling, delicately spiked with white pepper is sandwiched between two spiced pumpkin ginger cookies dusted with sparkling sugar. Yum-yum!!

Favorite Shops: Pink Kiss Pottery Studio

I am just in love with every piece that comes out of Pink Kiss Pottery Studio. The painterly layers of color, the textures, the mysterious text, the way that mug fits so perfectly in my hands as I leisurely sip my morning coffee. The latter part may be a fib, but my start up collection of mugs by Pink Kiss Pottery Studio does make me pause each morning as I take a moment and pour my cup of joe. And as for that mysterious text – I’ll fill you in on a little secret. The excerpts are chosen from those racy romance novels you secretly adore. Ponder that!

Favorite Shops: RE-SURFACE

Brooklyn artist Donna Brady formed RESURFACE with the idea that urban decay could be transformed into beautiful design elements for the home. I love her graffiti and corroded looking lamp shades!

Favorite Shops: Soop

I love the layered landscaped you can create with these little rings from Soop! They are petite and adorable and I can only imagine that the wearer can only feel very happy wearing one or a combination of any of these little guys.

White Rabbit

I live on the edge of Druid Hill Park, so these woodland creatures are particularly close to my heart. I'd just need to add a raccoon and a fox and a bat to the mix for the recreation of my back yard to be complete.

Favorite Seller: Shere Design

Is there anything sweeter than a little bird? Not for me... I'm a bird watcher. So, imagine my pleasant surprise when I was first looking for wedding bands and stumbled across the beautiful birdy jewelry from Shere Design, of Nottingham, UK.

Each piece is so whimsical & happy; so delicately detailed & each little bird seems to have its very own spirit. I still haven't decided on a single piece (luckily, that's what Etsy Favorites are for... I've got a nice little wish list going on!), but I'm loving this brooch and can't imagine anything I'd rather have on my lapel than a sweet bird in a happy tree.

As for rings, the balancing bird ring may have stolen my heart-- i love the outstretched wings and the clean lines of the silhouette. Here's my hand... perch away, dear birds, perch away.
