Vote for Tigerlillyshop in the Etsy & Kaboodle Floral Jewelry Contest!

Please vote for my ring!

Etsy's marketing team has been working with Kaboodle to do some cross promotion. They did a blog post in the Storque a few weeks ago: Tips for success for everything Kaboodle related here.

Tigerlillyshop's Red Cherry Blossom ring has been singled out, along with 47 other Etsy finds, to be in a contest for the best Floral Jewelry. To win, my ring must receive the most hearts by Kaboodle’s community of savvy shoppers. If I win, I get some great free promotion on the Kaboodle site!

*I will be prominently featured in a Winning Designer’s Circle within Kaboodle’s new Indie Channel
*I will receive winner badge that announces that my ring product won the Kaboodle contest
* My ring and I will be promoted throughout the Kaboodle site.

With your vote, YOU are entered into a random drawing for a chance to win a $100 PayPal gift certificate offered by Kaboodle!

I would be thrilled to get the promo from this contest. Voting ends on August 23rd, so don't delay! I encourage all my fans and friends of BEST to vote for me. Any promo I get, I carry my BEST team along with me!

Thanks for your vote in advance!
Allison

What I'm Working On -Tigerlillyshop

Last week I really put a ton of time "down in the hole" -a term of endearment which I use for spending time in my studio. In my electroforming corner, I was getting things set up for my plating bath. I have been prepping non-stop to restock my supply of nature jewelry.

My family and friends have been so incredibly helpful finding organic things for me to work with. I have a stockpile of various acorns, seedpods, shells, etc. waiting for me to encase them in copper. It's a slow and arduous process that takes a lot of patience, but so far I have liked the results I have gotten with this batch. I'll have more acorns and super cute new sea shells just in time for summer! I might even try silver plating some of them this year!!!

Twenty Things - Tigerlilly Shop

1. I am grateful to Cadbury who only sells their Mini Eggs once a year around Easter, I would be in big trouble if they were on the shelves year round.
2. Once, I caught a tadpole and raised it to a full grown leopard frog, and I was afraid of it once it was full grown ( Freaky eyes… )
3. I am a career Girl Scout. I even got my Gold Award despite my troop going underground for most of jr. hight and high school.
4. Probably, I spent 1/2 of my childhood catching crawfish and poison ivy in the ditches next to my house in Louisiana.
5. When everyone else in high school had a part time job making money, I volunteered my time away -and loved it.
6. When I gave birth to my daughter, Julie Bell helped make it an absolute perfect textbook water birth –au natural (*high fives all around to those who feel me).
7. I was appalled and laughed out loud at the real estate listing we eventually bought and made our home.
8. I am the oldest of 4 sisters, but admit I might not be the smartest one.
9. I think I laugh too loud, but don’t care.
10. I share my home with an exotic rainbow land crab named Fruity, a Siamese fighting fish named Poogdu, and my cat. Oh, and of course my daughter and her father.
11. I hated wearing dresses as a child.
12. I have been reupholstering furniture for 10 years, from outdoor cushions to museum quality antiques. Yes, those kitties keep me in business;)
13. I am always up for a challenge or one more thing that I may or may not be able to handle…

Sanguine Dreams

In the days before the New Hampshire primary, former president Bill Clinton (from a town called Hope, of all places) mocked the Obama campaign as a fairy tale, implying that an optimistic view is not enough to mend our current state. As the title of this exhibition suggests, painter/curator Paul Jeanes gathers artists in a range of media that evoke a spirit of rosy optimism, utopia and/or dreaminess, asking the question “can hope be enough?”

"Allison Fomich, aka tigerlillyshop, will have one of her aging time based inflatable sculptures on display at the Creative Alliance in Sanguine Dreams, a satellite exhibition of Art Scape. " -from the Creative Alliance website

The V-Day Event Of The Decade

Eve Ensler, started a global movement when her play “The Vagina Monologues” hit the stage in the mid ‘90’s. Since then, thousands of grassroots performances have raised more than $50 million and financed more than 5,000 community-based anti-violence programs, supported anti-violence legislation and education as well as safe houses around the world.

V To The Tenth will take place Friday - Saturday, April 11-12 at the New Orleans Arena and Louisiana Superdome bringing thousands of women and men to the city to celebrate V-Day’s ten years of ending violence against women and girls, and to honor the women of New Orleans and the Gulf South.

The Superdome will be transformed into Superlove - a place to heal, gather, celebrate and activate to change the story of women. Superlove will feature two days of revolutionary speakers, slam poets, singers, performers, storytelling, astounding art, and love. Special wellness programs will be available free of charge for the women of the Gulf South including restorative yoga, massage, medical testing, makeovers, and more!

Tiny pink tacos from TigerLillyShop

As if all of this wasn’t enough, a star-studded performance will close the two-day celebration on Saturday evening, April 12 at 7:30pm. Together on one stage - Salma Hayek, Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda (to name a few) will take the stage on this V-Day for a once in a lifetime benefit event featuring performances of The Vagina Monologues.

Tigerlillyshop’s Jewelry Demo

Monica Hampton, the Director of Education for the Council for the American Craft Council was looking to find local crafters in Baltimore who might be interested in partnering with the ACC to do some demonstrations during the retail portion of the show running February 22-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center. She told me that the ACC was trying to reach out to a broader audience and include the DIY market as well as people who make a living making a smaller volume of product than what one would equate with the status quo ACC base. Hampton mentioned that she was hoping to collaborate with Etsy a bit, and asked Adam from the Etsy Marketing team to help her contact me regarding my interest.

I am thrilled that she contacted me! This is a fantastic opportunity for me to get some wide exposure given that nearly 15,000 attendees come through the show floor!

In my demo, I will show the process and explain how I encapsulate organic objects in a copper shell to make one-of-a-kind pieces of nature jewelry. The many steps of the electroforming process will be exhibited, such as selecting a suitable object, plating in an acid bath, and finishing.

Last year I was lucky enough to be voted "Best Local Jewelry Designer 2007" by the Baltimore City Paper. Then, this inquiry from the ACC demo came through Etsy in December. In January, a writer for the Copper Development Association's online international magazine called me to feature my electroforming on their website (this article should be launching Monday). Wow, the web is an amazing networking tool! My head is still spinning.

Look for an article in the Examiner for info on the ACC show, my involvement, and images of my work!

Here is the ACC Demo Schedule for Saturday, February 23rd:

10:00 a.m. Show Opens
11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Allison Fomich, Tigerlilyshop – Jewelry electroforming
1:00-2:00 p.m. Erwin Timmers, Washington School of Glass - Recycled glass
2:00-3:00 p.m. Allison Fomich, Tigerlilyshop – Jewelry electroforming
3:00-4:00 p.m. Terry Todesco, Crash into Ewe - Yarn dyeing
4:00–5:00 p.m. Sam Wallace, Baltimore Clayworks artist,– Traditional Jamaican hand building
5:00 p.m. Demonstrations end
6:00 p.m. Show Closes
